UMLAUF After Dark | Lunar New Year
February 1
This event happens on the first of the month and features beer from Austin Beerworks and cocktails from Tito’s Vodka. Celebrate the Lunar New Year, complete with live music and traditional Lion Dancers.
Special Olympics Texas 2022 Winter Games
February 18-20
The Bee Cave and Lakeway area will host the Special Olympics Texas Winter games, which will include powerlifting, volleyball, cycling, golf, and floorball. Due to the pandemic, this will be the first statewide Special Olympics event since 2020.
February 26
Celebrate love at this annual night of celebration for queer self-identified women and non-binary folks! There will be dancing and drinking as well as DJ Gemayel, who will be playing dance hits throughout the decades and slow songs, too. Attendees are encouraged to wear formal attire like you would at a school prom.
Jamel Shabazz: Peace to the Queen Exhibit Opening
February 24
Head to the George Washington Carver Museum to explore the work of photographer, humanitarian, and educator Jamel Shabazz. The exhibit will feature decades of his work that focuses on portraits of women of color.
February 16-20
Enjoy getting offline at this LGBTQ+ festival. The theme for February is ‘offline’, and the organizers are drawing inspiration from the DIY culture of the ‘90s underground scene. This event will take place at the innovative VORTEX theater space.
Attention: This is Not a Drill with Margaret Atwood and Gloria Steinem
February 3
Join prominent feminists Margaret Atwood and Gloria Steinem for a night of discussion at the Paramount Theatre. This speaking event will cover Texas politics and more, and it will be moderated by journalist and managing editor of The Texas Newsroom, Corrie MacLaggan.
Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash
February 4-20
If you live up north, you won’t have to go far for a night of tunes. The Georgetown Palace Theatre is putting on a Johnny Cash musical with a variety of dates in February. The musical features a number of famous songs, like “I Walk The Line,” “A Boy Named Sue,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” and more.
February 12
The month of love can sometimes have people feeling low, but we know something that always helps — puppies! Courtesy of HEB, the Austin Humane Society and Yard Bar will be hosting this much-loved event complete with tailgate eats, puppy races, Super Bowl puppy predictions, pet adoptions, and of course Puppy Bowl LIVE.
The Rodeo Austin Gala and Youth Art Auction
February 12
This popular fundraising event has the goal of raising millions of dollars for education opportunities for Texas kids. Enjoy a night of dinner, cocktails, raffles, games, auctions, and live music by popular country band Midland.
Feb 2–June 5
View the opening of this major exhibition featuring the work of Colombian artist Oscar Muñoz. The exhibition will highlight 40 works from the 1970s to the present day, including charcoal drawings, photography, and other mediums.
February 10
Plan to attend the 4th Annual Black In Tech summit hosted by Capital Factory. There will be keynote speeches, panels on issues facing the tech industry, and networking opportunities.
Valor y Sueños Annual Luncheon
February 23
Focused on the advancement of under-resourced families of young children, this organization has been helping Austin since 1973. This luncheon will feature 400+ community leaders, fun, food, and storytelling.
February 23-27
The circus is coming to town! Ovo, or egg in Portuguese, tells the story of a strange egg, insects, and love. Gaze at a variety of acrobatic acts and soaring stunts while watching the drama and romance play out.
February 14
Y Comida is taking over the VIP section at Antone’s for a night of music and delicious food. Attendees will enjoy a 5-course dinner, tickets to the downstairs show, and a signature cocktail. This unique way to experience Antone’s is one of the most interesting ways to spend Valentine’s Day in Austin.
February 13
The Emerald Tavern Games and Cafe will host a tea party for two. This venue is known for hosting tabletop games, and there’s no better place to kick off the Valentine’s Day celebrations than surrounded by your friends, or a date! There will be a pot of tea for the table, scones, sandwiches, and desserts.
